From the President

In 1996 events took place that created the arrival of Guernsey goats in the United States. With the importation of kids from frozen embryos and semen, Guernseys were introduced to United States. They have slowly taken hold and a huge milestone was achieved in 2015 with the American Dairy Goat Association granting  Guernseys recognized breed status in the US! Many people worked long and hard for this. It is because of this extraordinary work that the GGBOA must accept what needs to be done to secure a continued place for the Guernsey goats and to advance the breed in the US.

I obtained two Guernsey does almost 2 ½ years ago and they have changed my life. I knew the breed’s beginnings, but this was just for my information. Attending the ADGA National Convention was the best thing I have done to learn and to meet many wonderful people. Learning of the status of our organization I became concerned. With that same sentiment voiced at the last meeting of GGBOA in Austin, I felt it was time to do something about it.

*The central theme is the ADVANCEMENT OF THE GUERNSEY GOAT* Only by working together can this task be done. Specific goals that need to be addressed are as follows:

1. We need to ensure the perpetuity of this organization by updating the Constitution and By-laws.

2. We need to be proactive in promoting our breed. This includes updating the logo and advertising.

3. For owners who want to be ambassadors for the Guernseys, we need to help provide literature and information for them to distribute and encourage them .

I appreciate your confidence and look for your continued support so we can achieve our goals. As President, I will be a servant leader. I am a Christian and intend to follow Jesus’ example in everything I do. The greatest explanation of this comes from Paul, in Philippians 2 when he states (NIV) “Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another and working together with one heart and one purpose. Don’t be selfish, don’t live to make a good impression on others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself. Don’t think only of your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and what they are doing. Your attitude should be the same as Jesus Christ had. Though He was God, He did not demand and cling to His rights as God. He made Himself nothing; He took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form. And in human form He obediently humbled Himself even further by dying a criminal’s death on a cross.”

I am so appreciative of all other Board Members and pray that I can gain much needed knowledge and wisdom from their input. Any members or Guernsey owners, please feel free at any time to contact me; help me learn from your own experiences. Again, thank you and I look forward to this group of Guernsey owners accomplishing great things!
